If your UK Standard Visitor Visa application is rejected, you will receive a letter or email from the UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) explaining the reasons for the rejection. The letter or email will also tell you what you can do next.

What are some reasons for rejection?

Your UK Standard Visitor Visa application might be rejected for a variety of reasons from insufficient applications to more personal reasons. Here’s a breakdown of the most common reasons for rejection

Insufficient information

Every single UK Visa Application requires information about you and what you intend to do in the UK, if you do not provide adequate information in the form your application can be rejected. An example would instead of putting a precise address for where you live just putting a city, this may not be intentional but it is insufficient information on what your address.

Incorrect or misleading information

Much like how above not giving adequate information can result in your application being rejected, providing incorrect information is also grounds for a rejection. We advise not lying when filling out your application, but even misleading information such as over-exaggerating your role in you workplace is grounds for rejection, so you should ensure all the information you provide is accurate and true.

Applying for the wrong type of visa

If you are applying for a UK Standard Visitor Visa, the needs of your journey should be adequately covered with what a UK Standard Visitor Visa permits. If you are applying for a UK Standard Visitor Visa with the intention of working in UK, your application will be rejected as you require a type of work visa and not a UK Standard Visitor Visa.

 Criminal History

Having a criminal record does not automatically result in a rejected application, however if you do not adequately disclose the information about your criminal record you can have your application rejected. We always recommend being as honest and open about any criminal offenses that you have.

Can you appeal the decision if rejected?

If your application is rejected, you have the right to appeal the decision. You can appeal the decision by writing to the UKVI within 14 days of receiving the rejection letter or email.

When you appeal the decision, you will need to provide more information to support your application. You may also need to attend an interview with a UKVI officer.

The UKVI will consider your appeal and make a final decision. If your appeal is successful, you will be issued a visa. If your appeal is unsuccessful, you will not be able to travel to the UK.
